Buying Websites for Sale

Buying and selling websites on the internet is quite similar to buying a house or a property in the real world. Certain principles that are being used to evaluate a property's value can also be applied to websites. With a little bit of knowledge and practice, you should be able to tell if a particular website is worth the value or not.

There are three simple aspects that you can refer to when evaluating the value of a website for sale. Make sure that you have gone through all of these before deciding to make a purchase:

1. Domain name. Names that are pronounceable as a word often fetch a higher price because they can be easily remembered, compared to names that are mixed up. Avoid names that are scrambled or with bad meanings because they can be easily mistaken as bad websites.

A good domain name is one that contains words relevant to your business, brand, company or the contents of the website, one that could describe what your website is about.

2. Traffic volume. No matter how well designed your website is, it is all useless without any visitors or traffic. Obtain traffic data from the owner of the website whenever possible and other important details such as the amount of revenues generated by the website over the period of its operation to make sure that the website you are about to purchase will be able to bring you profit in the future.

3. Pagerank and backlinks. Generally, a domain name with a higher pagerank (measured from 0 to 10 by Google) and a higher amount of links coming from other websites will often get ranked higher in search engine results since it is more credible.

Buying and selling websites is certainly a great online business opportunity that does not require a large sum of investment. Always look for domain names or websites which fulfill the above criteria and do not forget to continue developing and building the domains that you had bought to increase the chance of profiting rather than making a loss.
